 Woodlands School
"Sowing the seeds of knowledge"

About Woodlands
Woodlands School was founded in January 1997 to offer a high standard of education that possesses academic excellence, spiritual depth and moral integrity. Our school consequently has a strong Christian foundation. We are blessed with a community of supportive parents, dedicated teachers and enthusiastic learners. Since first opening its doors to only 12 children, it has grown considerably, but has remained a caring, personal educational environment. The school is situated on a quiet road in the centre of town, a beautiful setting, which is most conducive to learning and playing.

The vision of our school is to provide quality education in a co-educational environment; offering a holistic, well balanced, creative approach to prepare the individual for the challenges of life.

  • Woodlands School does not discriminate on the grounds of race, colour, gender or creed. We uphold the traditions of fairness and equality for all.

  • We are an associate member of the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa and we are registered with the Department of Education.

  • We have achieved candidature for full accreditation by UMALUSI Council for "Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training."

Preschool
Our learners all find their school a place they look forward to coming to. We begin instilling this love for learning in the preschool. This is a time of "learning through experience". Learners begin in grade 00 (this is the year they turn 5) and then spend two fun filled, happy years learning to reason, think and create.

Academic
Woodlands offers a balanced curriculum from grade 00-9 in an environment in which each learner will develop a lively, enquiring mind. We recognize each child's uniqueness and individual developmental needs in small classes not larger than 20 learners.

Our teaching is based on the principles of Outcomes Based Education.

Tuition is offered in English and from grade 1 to 3 in Afrikaans. Our curriculum includes all the basic subjects in accordance with the National Core Curriculum of the Department of Education as part of the EMS curriculum learners from grade 4-9 complete a course in entrepeneurship.

Our school has a Media Centre and library where pupils learn to do research for projects and where a love for books and reading is fostered.

Sport
A healthy, balanced variety of sporting and cultural activities are offered at no additional cost.

Extra curricular activities offered are athletics, ball skills, cricket, hockey, netball, soccer, swimming, tennis, chess, art and environmental awareness. Our learners are offered the opportunity of participation in the annual Eisteddfod and a school concert is held biennially.

Outreach
Woodlands is active in various outreach activities with the aim of instilling awareness and a sense of responsibility in the learners from a young age about the needs of the greater community. We also offer bursaries to needy students.
